Historical Background and Folklore
The cherry tree appears in Danish and Lithuanian folktales in connection with a spirit or guardian of the forest. In Lithuania it was call Kirnis. In Serbian tales, beautiful faery-like beings known as the Vila lived in the forests and loved to play near cherry trees.

The Kodokan emblem used by those who practice Judo is a stylized cherry blossom. For the Japanese samurai, this blossom was the epitome of purity and sacrifice. The Samurai used it as a focal point for meditations on the meaning of life and death. Today, the cherry season in Japan is heralded with festivals, parties and a special beer brewed for the occasion.

During the Victorian era, white cherry flowers were a symbol of deception. Cherrystones have been used as talismans to attract a lover. Dreaming of cherries on a tree indicates a potential loss in business. Dreaming of a cherry tree without cherries indicates that you will have good health.
