A
New Path to Ancient Wisdom
As a Pagan I was used to working with energy in ritual, but
always interested in finding new ways to apply the energy
of the natural world to my life. Feng shui fascinated me because
of its long history and ancient wisdom, but it didn't seem
to fit quite right at first. Not willing to give up on it,
I eventually realized that I had been doing a form of feng
shui on my own with crystals and gemstones. When I began to
put the two together, things started happening, and so gemstone
feng shui was born.
Gemstone
feng shui is an alternative method of feng shui that utilizes
crystals and gemstones exclusively. It can also be combined
with a traditional practice. At its core, feng shui is a method
of balancing the dynamic forces of the natural world. Gemstones
and crystals are perfect for this work because they are formed
by the earth’s powerful processes – Mother Earth
is dynamic and constantly changing. I also see gemstones and
crystals as gifts from Gaia. As a result, they embody the
energy of the elemental cycles of creation and destruction
that are utilized in feng shui. Gemstone feng shui employs
three methods for connecting with and using energy:
Elemental
Method – Applies the power of the elements with
gemstones that invoke their energy because of the manner through
which they were created. For example, peridot is found in
volcanic rock and represents fire. It can be placed wherever
you need to increase the power of fire and its associated
aspects.
Color
Method – Raises the power of a direction by employing
a stone with the color associated with it. For example, Northwest
is represented by the color gray. Using moonstone amplifies
the energy of this direction and its related life aspects.
Birthstone
Method – Adds a personal dimension when building
healthy energy, especially if your birth month corresponds
with the direction or element with which you are working.
For example, if you were born in December, the corresponding
direction is North. Black spinel and opal can be used to enhance
your connection with North as well as the element water.
Balancing
Elemental Energy
According to the ancient Chinese, all things in the universe
are divided into five elements: water, fire, wood, metal and
earth. These elements embody the archetypal energies that
shape all things and symbolize the process of change. Interactions
between the elements produce a continual cycle of growth and
decay. Understanding how these energies interact provides
the basis for invoking change and creating harmony.
In
traditional feng shui, balancing elemental energy can be accomplished
by using the element itself or a representation of it. In
gemstone feng shui, gems that embody the elements are used.
The size and number of stones, as well as their placement
can emphasize and increase the presence of one element, as
well as counteract and decrease the effects of another.
You
may want to try each method individually and then in combination
to see what works best for you. With gemstone feng shui you
will also learn how to determine your power direction and
energy group, as well as how to select gemstones and prepare
them for use.
